On April 9, 2026, the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus partnered with the 3rd Practical Conference “Industrial Complex of the Republic of Belarus: Innovation, Import Independence, Effective Management”. The conference focused on strategic development areas for the Belarusian industry. The main objectives of the events were to strengthen technological independence, increase export potential and develop new markets, introduce innovations, and improve enterprise management efficiency. This large-scale event brought together over 200 participants, more than 35 speakers, and experts, including representatives of the industrial sector, government agencies, and the business and expert community.
During plenary session “Strategy for Accelerated Development of the Industrial Sector within the Framework of State Programs for 2026-2030” Elena PRESNYAKOVA, Head of the Center for Innovation and Investment Policy at the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus, presented a report entitled “Priorities for Industrial Development in the Republic of Belarus for 2026-2030 in the Context of Ensuring Technological Sovereignty”. The presentation explored Belarus’s position in the UNIDO Industrial Competitiveness Index and outlined the areas for implementing Priority 4: Increasing Competitiveness, Accelerating Technological Development, and Digital Transformation of the Socioeconomic Development Program for 2026-2030. It also revealed benchmarks for innovative development and prospects for digital transformation of the economy over the next five-year period. In conclusion, the speaker emphasized the need for country and product diversification of exports and the active promotion of Belarusian products in new markets.
The plenary session included a panel discussion moderated by Tatyana SAKHNOVICH, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Engineering Economics at the Belarusian National Technical University’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and Anton OSTROUKH, Head of the Vehicle and Equipment Testing Center at BelNIIT “Transtechnika”. Elena PRESNYAKOVA, a member of the conference program committee, participated in the discussion, answering the following questions:
What are the key priorities of the state industrial development programs for 2026-2030?
What are the critical projected indicators for industrial development through 2030 (share of innovative products, labor productivity, profitability)? What specific resources – investment, personnel, and management – can industrial enterprises use to achieve them?
What instruments (financial, organizational, and regulatory) can create new competitive advantages for Belarusian industry?
What are the specifics of penetrating distant markets (Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America) in terms of product adaptation, service support, and building sustainable distribution channels?
Representatives of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus, the Republican Association of Industrial Enterprises “BelAPP”, the Research Institute of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus, and the representative office of JSC “Russian Export Center” in the Republic of Belarus also participated in the discussion.
The practical conference included 4 sections:
“Enhancing the Export of Industrial Products and Services to Distant Foreign Countries”;
“Lean Manufacturing: Entry Point and Growth Point. From the First Steps to Breaking Through the Plateau”;
“Effective Management: Implementing Modern Methods of Industrial Enterprise Management, Production, and Sales. Import Independence”;
“Lean Transformation: The Leader’s Scale”.
Researchers from the Center for World Economy at the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus, led by the Center’s Head, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor Tatyana VERTINSKAYA, actively participated in Section 1.
Ekaterina TAVGEN, a research fellow at the Center for World Economy at the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus, made a report entitled “Entering Distant Foreign Countries’ Markets: Current Risks, Promising Areas, and Forms of Cooperation”. The presentation explored prospects for strengthening trade and economic relations with Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.
Moreover, Section 1 explored the potential of additional instruments to support foreign economic activity using the tools of the Russian Export Center and the delivery of Belarusian exports to distant countries.
