On March 18, 2026, the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus held a Unified Information Day on the topic of “Modern Approaches to Regional Development: From Economics to Social Infrastructure”.

The event was opened by Alexander GOTOVSKY, Deputy Director for Research at the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor. He outlined the pressing issue of each region’s contribution to Belarus’s economic growth, focusing on the significance of the topic of the Unified Information Day and introducing the speaker.

Vitaly PILUI, Deputy Director for Research and Innovation at the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus, Candidate of Economic Sciences, presented a report on “Modern Approaches to Regional Development: From Economics to Social Infrastructure”.

The report notes that the main objective of Belarus’s domestic policy and the priority of socio-economic development programs are to create appropriate conditions for the development of social infrastructure and economic potential in the regions, as well as to prevent the gap in the quality of life between urban and rural areas. The implementation results of state programs for the development of the agro-industrial complex and specific territories are examined. It is noted that these programs have affected the lives of a huge number of people, giving impetus to the development of the social sphere and production in the regions, including territories remote from regional and district centers. As examples of regional projects successful implementation, the significance of the production facilities of OJSC Turov Dairy Plant and OJSC Turovshchina is considered. They were created within the framework of the State Program for the Development of Pripyat Polesie for 2010-2015 as city-forming enterprises of the city of Turov and the Zhitkovichi District. Vitaly PILUI concluded his report with a quote from the President of the Republic of Belarus A.G. Lukashenko on the importance of the village in the development of the Belarusian economy.

The presentation generated interest and a lively discussion among those present. The speaker was asked a number of questions:

Anastasia BOBROVA, Head of the Center for Human Development and Demography, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, expressed interest in the speaker’s views on the conditions that should be created in rural areas for a comfortable life;

Tatyana TETERINETS, Academic Secretary of the Institute, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, asked the speaker about assessing the effectiveness of five-year state programs for the development of the agro-industrial complex;

Andrei PILIUTIK, Deputy Director of the Institute, Candidate of Economic Sciences, inquired about the specifics of adopting and implementing state programs.

Vitaly PILUI provided expert and comprehensive answers to all questions.

Concluding the UID, Alexander GOTOVSKY emphasized the importance of the work of economists and the role of economic science in elaborating regional socioeconomic development programs in the Republic of Belarus.
