On March 4, 2026, the 9th Republican School of Sinology “Priority Research Areas within Modern China and Belarus-China Cooperation” was held at the Republican Confucius Institute of Sinology, Belarusian State University.
The school was timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Republican Confucius Institute of Sinology at Belarusian State University. Plenary session participants included Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan and experts in the field of modern China studies from leading scientific institutions in Belarus and China.
BSU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Education Internationalization Viktor KOCHIN addressed the school participants with a welcoming speech. He noted the significance of the event in the context of diversified cooperation between Belarus and China.
In turn, Anatoly TOZIK, Director of the BSU Confucius Institute of Sinology, outlined the main goal of the academic forum: “Today, our country faces the task of forming a national school of Sinology. Over the past 30 years, Belarus has accumulated the necessary experience and demonstrated enormous potential for mutually beneficial cooperation with China. To deepen these relations, it is important to understand and appreciate each other’s cultures, as well as to know the history and key stages of development of our partner countries”.
At the plenary session, Tatyana VERTINSKAYA, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Center for World Economy at the Institute of Economics of the NAS of Belarus, presented a report on “Transport Support for Belarus-China Trade Relations: Status, Problems, and Development Areas”.
Over 90 undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students, and researchers from Belarusian universities and scientific institutions took part in the forum. Natalia KASHINSKAYA, Deputy Head of the Belarusian-Chinese Analytical Development Center, and Oleg DODONOV, Leading Researcher, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, participated in the thematic section “Belarus-China Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation”.
Elena MILASHEVICH, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Social and Consumer Services Sector of the Department of Services Economy, also participated in the thematic section “Chinese Language and Chinese Culture in the Educational Space of Belarus”.
The school discussed ways to deepen bilateral partnership amid global economic transformation, as well as developing human resources and scientific potential for joint Belarus-China projects. Particular attention was paid to promising areas of collaboration in high technology, artificial intelligence, logistics, green energy, and regional cooperation, as well as the role of university research in supporting Belarus-China initiatives.
